About the Course

Introduction to Human Movement Analysis is a beginner-friendly microcourse designed to introduce the science of measuring, analyzing, and understanding human movement. The course provides a practical overview of how movement can be transformed into meaningful data using modern sensing technologies, computer vision, biomechanics, and artificial intelligence. Learners will first explore the fundamentals of human movement and understand why movement analysis has become an essential tool across healthcare, sports science, robotics, ergonomics, rehabilitation, animation, and human-computer interaction. The course then introduces the major movement acquisition technologies, including wearable sensors such as Electromyography (EMG) and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), along with camera-based marker and markerless motion capture systems. Learners will understand how these technologies convert physical movement into measurable digital data.Finally, participants will explore different types of human movement, learn how meaningful biomechanical features are extracted from movement data, and gain an overview of how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning use these features to recognize movement patterns and support real-world decision making.
